The Snyder Academy is dedicated to serving the needs of the surrounding community. Several social service initiatives are in place as described below. We remain dedicated to expanding social outreach programs. Our facility provides rental space to non profit organizations dedicated to community service.
Agape Community Kitchen Led by the youth of the Presbyterian Church in Westfield, the Agape Community Kitchen serves a nutritious meal every Wednesday night at the Snyder Academy to approximately 300 people in need. Agape’s mission is two-fold. We serve the hungry people of Elizabeth a generous weekly dinner in a loving, respectful and caring atmosphere. At the same time, we create a community with our Elizabeth neighbors and develop in our youth volunteers a life-long commitment to helping others.
Intensive Supervisory Program (ISP) – This is a State directed program established in 1983. Union County participants in this program provide maintenance and lawn services to the historic cemetery, Academy Building, and the 1790’s Church Building. ISP workers are integral to the cleaning and maintenance of the buildings and burial grounds.
Make the Road New Jersey has had its headquarters at Snyder Academy since September 2015. MTRNJ plays a central role in the fight for justice for immigrant residents in and around Elizabeth, New Jersey through civic engagement, transformative education, and policy innovation.
Red Ribbon Fellowship cares for infected and affected individuals living and dealing with HIV/AIDS as well as all other health issues.
